Marketing & Communications Chair Position Description

Below is a description of the responsibilities of the Marketing & Communications Chair on the board of directors for YNPN Triangle NC.

Responsibilities:

The Marketing & Communications Chair leads all communications work of YNPN Triangle NC with a particular emphasis on digital media. The Chair oversees and leads efforts to provide quality and consistent communication that promotes YNPN Triangle NC programming. 

The Marketing & Communications Chair will:

  • Develop and execute an external communications plan
  • Promoting YNPN Triangle NC events, members, and other relevant information through various online communications channels, including but not limited to the website, blog, social media, and monthly newsletter
  • Managing strategic media engagement to advance the brand, mission, and public awareness, including advising outreach to media outlets across the organization
  • Supporting the fiscal sustainability of YNPN Triangle NC by engaging in any necessary budgeting processes
  • Recruiting members for the communications committee and providing committee members with needed support, feedback, and guidance
  • Adhering to YNPN Triangle NC brand standards, ensuring compliance, and establishing a periodic review of documents in order to ensure relevance to current communication methods, modes, and norms
  • Managing YNPN Triangle NC swag and print materials as needed
  • Maintain the website, keeping content fresh, accurate, and relevant and updating as necessary 

Skills and Experience:

  • Clear and effective communicator
  • Skilled copy editor with attention to detail
  • Capable of creating both long and short-form content
  • Ability to self-start and meet deadlines independently 
  • Creativity and ability to create and execute new communication strategies 
  • Awareness YNPN Triangle NC history and culture
  • Awareness of YNPN nationwide network 

Additional skills preferred:

  • Experience updating web content, experience with NationBuilder a plus 
  • Experience with social media analytics and audience segmentation 

Time Commitment:

15-20 hours per month for two years

(The Marketing & Communications Chair position entering this cycle will serve a one-year term to meet the organization’s strategic succession planning needs, finishing their term December 2023.)
