Get Budget Smart

This year, YNPN’s professional development events are all based on our Competency Model. The Competency Model consists of four pillars that reflect the skills we’ve found through research that emerging nonprofit leaders need to be successful: Effective Communication, Personal Management, Leadership Development, and Technical Skills. Each quarter we will host a professional development event that hits each one of these competencies. This month’s event will focus on Technical Skills: Budget Management.

Have you ever been overwhelmed by the idea of budgeting? Have you been given this task but don’t know where to start? Budgets are tools for you to showcase your organization’s priorities, plans and endeavors. If you have ever been a part of managing an organization’s finances or want to engage in this aspect of strategic planning in the future, take a productive lunch break with us. We will hear from speakers of small and medium-sized organizations as we dive into how to develop, implement and manage organizational budgets. RSVP here today.

Food trucks will be available for you to purchase lunch items.  You may also bring a bagged lunch along with you.

Our Speakers

Erin Jenkins Miller

Born in Orangeburg, SC, and raised all across the US (by way of her father's service in the US Army), Erin Miller has called North Carolina home for the last 5 years.  Having moved to North Carolina from Miami, FL after attending the University of Miami and working in the South Florida non-profit sector for over 10 years, there hasn't been a role or organization she's worked for where disrupting education and systemic inequity have not been at the heart of the work.  Erin has been a member of Teach For America's Eastern North Carolina regional team for 4 1/2 years and currently serves as the Director, Talent Development, where she spends her time thinking about the hiring, recruitment, staffing and development of their regional team members as well as overall staff engagement and experience.  Prior to her current role Erin served as the region's Director, People, Equity & Operations where she managed the regions $6.2 million operating budget and overall operations in addition to her talent development responsibilities. When she isn't working, she loves spending time with her husband George, their 5-month old twin boys, 8-year old pup Tre, family, and friends.
